Fresh Start Multi-Purpose Oil-Based Primer 024 is the alkyd primer you reach for when stains bleed through water-based products. It suppresses water stains, tannin bleed, smoke damage, crayon, graffiti, grease, cedar and redwood bleed, asphalt, creosote, and rust — then performs equally well under latex or alkyd finish coats.
Why choose it: Premium alkyd formula blocks bleeding stains that latex primers cannot handle. Blister resistant with high hiding. Works under all Benjamin Moore architectural finishes — no compatibility concerns. MPI #5, 45, 136 approved.
Best for: Interior: previously painted surfaces, wood, drywall, masonry, ceiling tile, Masonite. Exterior: wood, hardboard, cured masonry, adjacent metal. Any surface where stain suppression is critical.
Key details: Interior/Exterior. Flat finish. Covers 450–550 sq ft/gal. Dry to touch in 6 hours; recoat in 8 hours. Mineral spirits cleanup. 344 g/L VOC.
Professional note: Do NOT apply over galvanized metal. On hard non-porous surfaces, maximum adhesion and hardness may take 3–4 days to develop. Minimum application temperature: 50°F. For severe stain cases, two coats may be required.
